John Butler Trio @ Kuranda Review

Words and Images by Nik Zanetich

The John Butler Trio played at the Kuranda Amphitheatre on Friday night, and despite the rain turning the ground to mud, there was an excellent turn out of loyal fans.

The night started off with We Two Thieves, a three-piece band accompanying the JBT on their latest ‘Flesh and Blood’ tour. Funny stories were told and their songs were given context as an eager crowd awaited to hear the latest music from them.

The night continued onto the main act, the John Butler Trio, whose Flesh and Blood’ tour introduced their sixth studio album, as well as new drummer Grant Gerathy.

The poncho-donning fans were numerous, filling the amphitheatre soaked head to toe but their spirit completely untarnished from the weather.

Featuring a great mix of old and new songs from their impressive catalogue, the Trio lead a night of nailed solos and perfect togetherness that only a professional act can really bring on stage.

John Butler truly is a star performer and the crowd were mainly grateful the concert went ahead at Kuranda as originally planned even if everyone did get a bit wet.
