Pete Murray @ Gilligan's - Review

After some Guest list hassle's resolved with the help of a very friendly general manager we finally made it into Gilligan's main bar just before 8 when Murray was due to take the stage.

The first thing I noticed upon entering was that this large venue was almost full, showing the love of live music that the people of Cairns have and their preparedness to got out even on a Sunday night to see quality acts.

It has been a long time since Pete Murray has been in Cairns and the audience were appreciative of him making the trip if this show was not sold out it was very close to have been.

Kicking his set off with the title track of his new album Blue Sky Blue the crowd got into the mood of the evening.

The set was well paced with faster songs interspersed with the ballas's one of which was dedicated to the girl in Rockhampton who gave Murray the finger and ended up making front page news.

Murray's shows ticked all the boxes for the crowd with his new album heavily drawn from but the classics from his back catalogue getting a look in as well.

I am also sure that the large number of ladies in the crowd also liked the trucker singlet look Pete sported on stage.

A great night from a great Australian performer in what could be a more consistent live venue in Cairns.
